Loxapine, sold under the brand namesLoxitaneandAdasuve(inhalationonly) among others, is atricyclicantipsychoticmedication used primarily in the treatment ofschizophreniaandbipolar disorder. It is a member of thedibenzoxazepineclass and structurally very similar toclozapine. Several researchers have argued that loxapine, initially classified as atypical antipsychotic, behaves as anatypical antipsychotic.
Loxapine may be metabolized byN-demethylation toamoxapine, atricyclic antidepressant.
