Hydroxychloroquine, sold under the brand namePlaquenilamong others, is a medication used to prevent and treatmalariain areas where malaria remains sensitive tochloroquine. Other uses include treatment ofrheumatoid arthritis,lupus, andporphyria cutanea tarda. It is takenby mouth, often in the form of hydroxychloroquine sulfate.
