Gefitinib, sold under the brand nameIressa, is amedicationused for certain breast, lung and othercancers. Gefitinib is anEGFR inhibitor, likeerlotinib, which interrupts signaling through theepidermal growth factor receptor(EGFR) in target cells. Therefore, it is only effective in cancers with mutated and overactive EGFR, but resistances to gefitinib can arise through other mutations. It is marketed byAstraZenecaandTeva.

• Caution should be exercised in patients with history of lung disease, heart, kidney, or liver problems; any allergy, who are taking other medications, during pregnancy and breastfeeding.
