Common side effects includediarrhea,nausea,abdominal pain,headache,rashandvomiting.Severe side effects includeallergic reactions,liver problems, and skin rashes such astoxic epidermal necrolysis.While poorly studied inpregnancyit appears to be safe for the baby.It is of theprotease inhibitor(PI) class and works by blockingHIV protease. Darunavir was approved by the USFood and Drug Administration(FDA) in June 2006.It is on theWorld Health Organization's List of Essential Medicines.It is available as ageneric medication. It is available in thefixed-dose combinationmedicationdarunavir/cobicistat(Prezcobix, Rezolsta),and in the fixed-dose combination medicationdarunavir/cobicistat/emtricitabine/tenofovir alafenamide(Symtuza).
