Asmag is an oral magnesium supplement tablet containing magnesium hydrogen phosphate (Magnesii hydrogenophosphas) 300 mg providing approximately 20 mg of elemental magnesium per tablet. Magnesium is the fourth most abundant cation in the body and an essential cofactor for over 300 enzymatic reactions including ATP-dependent processes, nucleic-acid synthesis, neuromuscular transmission, cardiac conduction, and intracellular calcium homeostasis. ATC class A12CC05 (mineral supplements, magnesium). Oral magnesium is absorbed primarily in the small intestine via paracellular and active transport, with absorption efficiency increasing in deficiency states.
⚠️ Warnings
Use with caution in patients with mild to moderate renal impairment — monitor plasma magnesium periodically. Avoid in severe renal failure. In symptomatic or severe hypomagnesaemia, intravenous magnesium is preferred over oral supplementation. Ensure adequate hydration. Do not use as a substitute for evaluation of persistent neuromuscular symptoms. Pregnancy and breast-feeding: oral magnesium at supplemental doses is considered safe.
