Asparaginian lek is an oral tablet combination of potassium hydrogen aspartate 250 mg and magnesium hydrogen aspartate 250 mg, providing approximately 54 mg of elemental K+ and 17 mg of elemental Mg2+ per tablet. The aspartate moiety acts as a transmembrane shuttle that facilitates entry of both ions into the intracellular compartment, especially in cardiac and skeletal muscle. K+ and Mg2+ are essential for the resting membrane potential, action-potential repolarisation, neuromuscular transmission, ATP-dependent metabolism and cardiac conduction. ATC class A12CX (other mineral supplements). The product is intended to correct mild combined K+/Mg2+ deficits, a clinically frequent pattern especially during diuretic therapy and after prolonged vomiting or diarrhoea.
⚠️ Warnings
Monitor plasma potassium, magnesium and creatinine in patients with renal impairment or receiving RAAS-blockers, potassium-sparing diuretics, or trimethoprim. Avoid concomitant unsupervised additional potassium supplementation. Take after meals to reduce gastrointestinal side effects. Ensure adequate hydration. Severe symptomatic electrolyte deficits require parenteral correction. Pregnancy and breast-feeding: oral aspartate supplementation at recommended doses is considered safe. Discontinue or reduce dose if hyperkalaemia symptoms appear (paraesthesia, muscle weakness, palpitations, ECG changes).
