Beclomethasone Dipropionate is a corticosteroid and an anti-inflammatory drug. It is used for the treatment of several inflammatory conditions.
It is used as inhalation for the prevention of bronchial
asthma
, nasal spray for rhinitis and prevention of recurrence of nasal polyps after surgical removal, orally for mild-to-moderate
ulcerative colitis
, and on the skin for inflammatory skin conditions.
The inhalational form is not useful in patients with an acute attack of asthma.
This medication is prescribed for seasonal and perennial allergic rhinitis in adults and adolescents 12 years of age and older.
⚠️ Warnings
• Beclomethasone may mask signs of infection. It can make patients more likely to get infections or may worsen any current infections.
• • Patients are advised to wash their hands after skin application
• Caution is advised in patients with diabetes, stomach and intestinal ulcer, high blood pressure,
osteoporosis
, mental problems like depression, glaucoma,
cataract
and seizures, since beclomethasone can worsen these conditions
• Caution is also advised in patients with kidney and liver disease,
myasthenia gravis
, heart attack and hypoadrenalism
• The nasal spray should be avoided in patients with recent nasal septal ulcers
• Beclomethasone should not be used following trauma or surgery since it delays wound healing
• Use with caution in pregnancy, breastfeeding women and in children
