Nimesulide is a non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drug (NSAID) with analgesic, antipyretic, and anti-inflammatory properties. It is approved as a second-line agent for the treatment of acute pain and dysmenorrhoea. In 2011, its indications were restricted due to rare hepatotoxicity, and it is no longer approved for the treatment of osteoarthritis. The most common adverse effects include diarrhoea, nausea, vomiting, and elevated liver enzymes. Very rarely, severe liver damage has been observed, which in extremely rare cases may have a fatal outcome.
Nimesulide (ATC M01AX17) has analgesic, antipyretic, and anti-inflammatory properties. Its effects are based on the inhibition of prostaglandin synthesis through selective inhibition of cyclooxygenase COX-2.
