In case of diarrhoea, caution should be exercised in patients prone to fluid and electrolyte imbalance (e.g. patients with hepatic or renal impairment taking diuretics), and electrolyte monitoring should be considered.

Exceptional cases of anaphylactic shock have been reported.
Macrogol does not contain a significant amount of sugar or polyol and may be prescribed to diabetic patients or patients on a galactose-free diet.
