Mebeverine is a muscle-relaxant active substance from the group of antispasmodics used for the treatment of abdominal cramps. It is used, among other conditions, in irritable bowel syndrome. Mebeverine acts selectively on smooth muscle and is not anticholinergic. The modified-release capsules are taken twice daily. Possible adverse effects include hypersensitivity reactions, dizziness, drowsiness, confusion, nausea, and skin rashes.
