Thiamine (Vitamin B1)

Thiamine (Vitamin B1) is an active substance belonging to the vitamin group that plays an important role in carbohydrate metabolism and the nervous system as an enzymatic cofactor.‍​‍‍‍​‍‍‍‍‍‍‍‍​‍ The active form of the vitamin is known as thiamine pyrophosphate. Thiamine is taken for the prevention and treatment of vitamin B1 deficiency, in diseases of nerve cells, and as a dietary supplement. Adverse effects are rarely reported due to the wide therapeutic margin. Hypersensitivity reactions may occur with parenteral administration.
