Enalapril is an antihypertensive agent belonging to the ACE inhibitor class, used for the treatment of high blood pressure and heart failure. Its effects are based on the inhibition of angiotensin II synthesis. Enalapril is usually taken once daily regardless of meals. The most common possible adverse effects include weakness, nausea, dry cough, dizziness, visual disturbances, hyperkalaemia, hypotension, and hypersensitivity reactions.
Enalapril (ATC C09AA02) has antihypertensive properties and reduces cardiac load (preload and afterload). Its mechanism of action is based on the inhibition of the conversion of angiotensin I to angiotensin II through inhibition of the angiotensin-converting enzyme (ACE). Enalapril thus counteracts the effects of angiotensin II.
