Etravirine, in combination with other antiretroviral agents is indicated for the treatment of HIV-1 infection in antiretroviral treatment-experienced adults who have evidence of viral replication and resistance to non-nucleoside transcriptase inhibitors and other antiretroviral agents.,This indication is based on 24-week analyses from 2 randomised, double-blind, placebo controlled trials of etravirine. Both studies were conducted in clinically advanced, 3-class antiretroviral (NNRTI, N(t)RTI, PI) treatment-experienced adults (see section 5.1 Pharmacodynamic properties Clinical trials).,Treatment history of patients and genotypic testing should be performed to guide the use of etravirine.
⚠️ Warnings
• Caution should be exercised in patients with history kidney, liver problems, hepatitis, sugar, high blood cholesterol, any allergy, who are taking other medications, during pregnancy and breastfeeding.
• It may cause drowsiness, dizziness, or blurred vision, do not drive a car or operate machinery while taking this medication.
• It may cause redistribution or accumulation of fat in certain body parts; if it is so consult with your doctor.
• It does not stop the spread of HIV to others; avoid sexual contact, sharing of needles or injection supplies.
• It may cause serious, potentially life-threatening, and fatal skin reactions with the following symptoms: red, swollen, blistered, or peeling skin; severe rash, fever, mouth sores, red and irritated eyes, etc. If it is so consult with your doctor.
• Monitor liver function, CD4 count, complete blood cell counts, and blood cholesterol regularly while taking this medication.

Patient may develop Immune Reconstitution Syndrome and Eosinophilia and Systemic Symptoms (DRESS).
