Fenoterol is a bronchodilator belonging to the class of beta-2 adrenergic agonists, used for the treatment of acute bronchoconstriction in asthma, COPD, and bronchitis. Some preparations are also approved for maintenance therapy. Its effects are based on selective agonism at beta-2 receptors in the airways. Onset of action is rapid, and the duration of effect is between 3–5 hours. The most common adverse effects include cough and tremor. In some countries, fenoterol is also approved as a tocolytic agent.
Fenoterol (ATC R03AC04) has bronchodilatory, sympathomimetic, and tocolytic properties. Its effects are based on selective binding to beta-2 receptors. Onset of action is rapid, within a few minutes, and the duration of effect is between 3–5 hours.
