Fenoterol is a bronchodilating agent from the beta-2 adrenergic agonist class, used for the treatment of acute bronchoconstriction in asthma, COPD, and bronchitis. Some formulations are also approved for long-term maintenance therapy. Its effects are based on selective agonism at beta-2 receptors in the airways. Onset of action is rapid, and the effects last between 3–5 hours. The most common adverse effects include cough and tremor. In some countries, fenoterol is also approved as a tocolytic agent.
