Betahistine is an active substance belonging to the group of antivertiginous agents, used for the treatment of vertigo and Ménière's disease. It is an agonist at histamine H1 receptors and an antagonist at histamine H3 receptors, promoting blood flow in the inner ear and the brain. The tablets are usually taken two to three times daily with food. The most common possible adverse effects include nausea, dyspepsia, and headache.
Betahistine (ATC N07CA01) has antivertiginous and blood flow-promoting properties in the area of the inner ear and the brain. It is a partial agonist at the histamine H1 receptor and a partial antagonist at the histamine H3 receptor and, unlike histamine, crosses the blood-brain barrier.
