What is Senna used for?

Relief of mild to moderate pain: musculoskeletal pain, dysmenorrhea, headache, dental pain, post-traumatic pain. Symptomatic treatment of rheumatoid arthritis, osteoarthritis, ankylosing spondylitis, and acute gout. Reduction of fever.

Naproxen is a non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drug (NSAID) with analgesic, antipyretic, and anti-inflammatory activity.

What are the side effects of Senna?

Common: headache, heartburn, dizziness, abdominal pain, abdominal distension, nausea, dyspepsia, insomnia, constipation, vomiting, pruritus, drowsiness, urticaria, diarrhea. Serious: gastrointestinal ulceration (with bleeding), gastric and duodenal ulcers, hematemesis, renal failure, peripheral edema, melena, fever, angioedema, hyperhidrosis, heart failure, glomerulonephritis, toxic epidermal necrolysis, photosensitivity, blistering skin disorders, anaphylactic shock, tinnitus.

Who should NOT take Senna?

Hypersensitivity to naproxen or any excipient; comorbidities: severe hepatic failure; cardiac dysfunction including heart failure; gastrointestinal disorders, peptic ulcers, gastrointestinal bleeding; severe renal failure; hemorrhagic diathesis (purpura); third trimester of pregnancy. Contraindicated in patients with prior hypersensitivity reaction to aspirin or other NSAIDs (bronchospasm, rhinitis, urticaria).

Does Senna interact with other medications?

Concurrent consumption of ethanol with naproxen may intensify gastrointestinal and central nervous system adverse effects. Sporadic alcohol use combined with naproxen may produce different symptoms than chronic alcohol abuse. Avoid concurrent use with other NSAIDs, anticoagulants, and lithium.

What precautions should be taken with Senna?

Naproxen is registered as an over-the-counter medicine, creating a risk that patients may take multiple preparations containing the same active substance under different trade names. This increases the risk of adverse effects and gastrointestinal irritation. Due to elevated gastrointestinal bleeding risk, the lowest effective dose for the shortest duration is recommended.
