Fenoterol is a bronchodilating agent from the group of beta-2 sympathomimetics, used for the treatment of acute bronchoconstriction in asthma, COPD, and bronchitis. Some medicinal products are also approved for maintenance therapy. Its effects are based on selective agonism at beta-2 receptors in the airways. The onset of action is rapid, and the effects last between 3–5 hours. The most common possible adverse effects include cough and tremor. In some countries, fenoterol is also approved for tocolysis (inhibition of labour contractions).
