Schedule His a class ofprescription drugsinIndiaappearing as an appendix to theDrugs and Cosmetics Rules, 1945introduced in 1945. These are drugs which cannot be purchased over the counter without the prescription of a qualified doctor. The manufacture and sales of all drugs are covered under the Drugs and Cosmetics Act and Rules. It is revised at times based on the advice of theDrugs Technical Advisory Board, part of theCentral Drugs Standard Control Organizationin theMinistry of Health and Family Welfare. The most recent schedule H (2006) lists 536 drugs fromabacavirtozuclopenthixol.
However, enforcement of Schedule H laws in India is lax, compared to the more restrictiveSchedule X, for which a mandatory documentation trail must be maintained.
⚠️ Warnings
•Caution needed in patients with history of upper gastrointestinal disorders (discontinue if symptoms worsen); ulcers and active gastrointestinal bleeding.
Correct vitamin D and calcium deficiency before starting therapy.
Not recommended for use in patients with CrCl <35 ml/min.
Proper dental care is important while taking this medication.
Do not drive a car or operate machinery, avoid alcohol and smoking while taking this medication.
