Pharmacotherapeutic group: drugs for the treatment of liver and biliary tract disorders ATC code: A05AX02
Hymecromone, a methylcoumarin derivative, is a musculotropic spasmolytic that acts selectively on the gallbladder, biliary tract, and sphincter of Oddi, without parasympatholytic effects. It also acts as a true choleretic, increasing the secretion of bile and bile salts, favourably influencing the lithogenic index of bile, and promoting regeneration of hepatocytes damaged by cholestasis.
⚠️ Warnings
Worsening of symptoms (pressure or pain in the right hypochondrium) may indicate organic obstruction of the biliary tract (stenosis of the papilla of Vater). In such cases, treatment must be discontinued.
Hymecromone is not indicated for the treatment of acute biliary tract obstruction. Isochol is not intended for the treatment of acute cholecystitis or acute cholangitis.
