Flurbiprofen is an active substance belonging to the group of non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs) with analgesic, antipyretic, and anti-inflammatory properties. Its effects are based on the inhibition of prostaglandin biosynthesis through inhibition of cyclooxygenases. The medicinal products are used for the treatment of pain and inflammatory conditions of various origins. Lozenges or sprays containing the active substance are used for inflammation and pain in the oral cavity and pharynx. The most common possible adverse effects include gastrointestinal disturbances, central nervous system disturbances, oedema, and prolongation of bleeding time. Flurbiprofen is a substrate of CYP2C9.
Flurbiprofen (ATC M01AE09) has analgesic, antipyretic, and anti-inflammatory properties. Its effects are based on the inhibition of prostaglandin biosynthesis through inhibition of cyclooxygenase-1 and -2 (COX-1 and COX-2). The half-life is in the range of 4 to 6 hours.
