Pharmacotherapeutic group: heparins and heparinoids for topical use, heparin, combinations ATC code: C05BA53
Mechanism of action
Both active substances of the preparation, i.e. heparin sodium and levomenol, exert their specific anti-inflammatory effect by inhibiting inflammatory mediators. This results in the reduction of two typical symptoms of eczema, namely the regression of skin redness and burning sensation. The biochemical basis of the anti-inflammatory efficacy of heparin is the inhibition of lysosomal systems, such as proteases and glycanohydrolases. Pruritus, which is often an unpleasant accompanying symptom of eczema, is suppressed by the action of heparin. This naturally occurring substance binds histamines and serotonins, which are released in increased amounts in eczema and are the main cause of sometimes unbearable pruritus.
The eczema-damaged skin epithelium is restored through activation of metabolism by the combined action of heparin and levomenol.
