Clotrimazole is an antifungal agent belonging to the azole antifungal class with antibacterial properties. It is used for the topical treatment of dermal fungal infections, such as athlete's foot and diaper dermatitis. In the form of vaginal tablets and creams, it is used for the treatment of vaginal candidiasis. Adverse effects may include local skin irritation or hypersensitivity reactions.
Clotrimazole (ATC D01AC01) has antifungal properties against dermatophytes, yeasts such as Candida albicans, moulds, and other fungi. It also has antibacterial properties. Its effects are based on the inhibition of ergosterol synthesis, an essential component of the fungal cell membrane.
