⚠️ Warnings
This product is intended for oromucosal use only. Do not swallow.
Corsodyl must not be applied to the eyes, periocular area, or auditory canal. If the product accidentally comes into contact with these areas, rinse thoroughly with copious amounts of water.
In the event of skin rash, swelling, or irritation of the lips, tongue, throat, or face, or if breathing difficulties occur, treatment should be discontinued and medical advice sought.
At the start of treatment, transient changes in taste sensation and numbness, tingling, or a burning sensation of the tongue may occur. These effects usually resolve with continued use. If they persist, the patient should consult a physician.
Use of this product may cause discoloration of the dorsum of the tongue, which resolves following discontinuation of treatment. Discoloration of teeth and of silicate or composite restorations may also occur. This staining is not permanent and can in most cases be prevented by reducing consumption of tea, coffee, and red wine, and by daily toothbrushing with conventional toothpaste before applying Corsodyl dental gel, or, in the case of dentures, by cleaning with standard denture-cleaning products. In certain cases, complete removal may require professional dental treatment. Stained restorations on anterior teeth with poor margins or rough surfaces that cannot be fully cleaned should be replaced. Likewise, in cases where normal toothbrushing is not possible, such as during intermaxillary fixation or use of extensive orthodontic appliances, professional cleaning and polishing should be carried out as soon as these conditions are removed.
Chlorhexidine is incompatible with anionic agents (e.g. sodium lauryl sulfate); concomitant use may reduce the efficacy of chlorhexidine. Use of a toothpaste free from sodium lauryl sulfate is therefore recommended. Anionic agents are present in conventional toothpastes and other products commonly used topically in the mouth (chewing gums, nicotine replacement products, mouthwashes, orodispersible tablets, etc.). After using such products, the mouth should be rinsed thoroughly with water before applying Corsodyl, or these products should be used at a different time of day.
The product does not prevent subgingival plaque formation. Careful monitoring of the subgingival region is therefore recommended, with adjunctive treatment initiated where required.
This medicinal product contains macrogolglycerol hydroxystearate.
The amount potentially swallowed is, however, negligible. Macrogolglycerol hydroxystearate may cause stomach upset and diarrhoea.
