The active substance of Curatoderm, tacalcitol, is an analogue of vitamin D3. It suppresses epidermal hyperproliferation, promotes normal keratinisation (keratinocyte differentiation) and modulates the inflammatory process. These properties underpin its targeted pharmacological action in psoriasis.
⚠️ Warnings
Patients should be advised, when applying the product to the face, to avoid contact with healthy skin and with the eyes.
Owing to the lack of clinical experience, use in children under 12 years of age is not recommended.
The product should not be applied to more than 15–20% of body surface area, depending on the duration of treatment (see section 4.2).
Monitoring of calcium levels is advised in patients receiving concomitant calcium or vitamin D and in those with impaired renal function.
Butylated hydroxytoluene (E 321), contained in the white soft paraffin excipient, may cause local skin reactions (e.g. contact dermatitis) or irritation of the eyes and mucous membranes.
