Pharmacotherapeutic group: ectoparasiticides, including scabicides; pyrethrins, including synthetic derivatives. ATC code: P03AC04.
Permethrin (3-phenoxybenzyl (+)-cis,trans-3-(2,2-dichlorovinyl)-2,2-dimethylcyclopropanecarboxylate) is a synthetic pyrethroid with oral and topical activity against mites.
Paediatric population — Neonates and infants:
The safety and efficacy of permethrin in neonates and infants under 2 months of age have not yet been established, as no data from prospective studies or larger case series are available.
A limited number of case reports involving the treatment of children under 2 months of age does not suggest any specific safety concerns with topical permethrin in this age group; however, no definitive conclusions can be drawn.
⚠️ Warnings
In cases of hypersensitivity to chrysanthemums or other plants of the Compositae family, treatment should only be administered when strictly indicated. In all other cases, treatment should be changed and a product of a different chemical structure should be used.
When using Infectoscab, care must be taken to avoid contact of the cream with the eyes or mucous membranes (e.g. the nasopharyngeal area, the genital area) and with open wounds.
Carers applying Infectoscab are advised to wear gloves.
Paediatric population
Experience with Infectoscab in children aged 2 to 23 months is limited. Therefore, treatment in this age group must be carried out only under close medical supervision. For cutaneous use only.
This medicinal product contains cetostearyl alcohol and sorbic acid, which may cause local skin reactions (e.g. contact dermatitis).
Infectoscab is harmful to all insect species and also to aquatic life (fish, daphnia, algae). Contamination of aquaria and terraria must be avoided.
Note:
The excipients of the product (liquid paraffin, white soft paraffin) may impair the integrity, and thus the reliability, of latex products (e.g. condoms, diaphragms) used at the same time as treatment with the cream.
