Dexpanthenol, the active substance of Bepanthen, is rapidly converted within skin cells to pantothenic acid (vitamin B5) and therefore exerts the same effect as the vitamin. Dexpanthenolum, however, has the advantage of being far more readily absorbed following topical application. Pantothenic acid is a constituent of the essential coenzyme A (CoA). In the form of acetyl coenzyme A, CoA plays a central role in the metabolism of all cells. Pantothenic acid is indispensable to the body for the formation and regeneration of the skin and mucous membranes.

Contact of the product with the eyes should be avoided.
The product contains cetyl alcohol, stearyl alcohol, and wool fat (lanolin). These may cause local skin reactions (e.g. contact dermatitis).
This medicinal product contains 15 mg of propylene glycol per 1 g of cream. Propylene glycol may cause skin irritation.
