Beclometasone is an anti-inflammatory and anti-allergic active substance from the glucocorticoid class, used as an inhalation for the treatment of bronchial asthma. It is usually administered twice daily. After use, the patient should eat something or rinse the mouth to prevent oral thrush (candidiasis). The effects are delayed in onset. Beclometasone is not suitable for the treatment of an acute attack. Possible adverse effects include oral thrush, hoarseness, throat irritation, and cough. In pharmaceutical preparations, beclometasone is present as beclometasone dipropionate, a prodrug of the 17-monopropionate.
Beclometasone (ATC R03BA01) has anti-inflammatory, anti-allergic, and immunosuppressive properties. Its effects are based on binding to intracellular glucocorticoid receptors.
