Pharmacotherapeutic group: Vasoprotectives, bioflavonoids; ATC code: C05CA03.
Mechanism of action
Effect on veins
Diosmin STADA reduces venous distensibility and decreases venous stasis.
Effect on microcirculation
Diosmin STADA decreases capillary permeability and increases capillary resistance. It also exerts an anti-inflammatory effect through its action on prostaglandin synthesis.
Pharmacodynamic effects
Effects on venous tone
Diosmin STADA increases venous tone and thereby reduces venous capacity, distensibility, and blood stasis: venous occlusion mercury plethysmography has demonstrated a reduction in venous emptying time.
Effects on the lymphatic system
Diosmin STADA stimulates lymphatic activity, improves drainage of the interstitial space, and increases lymph flow.
Effects on microcirculation
Controlled double-blind clinical studies have demonstrated a statistically significant difference between diosmin and placebo. In patients with capillary fragility, treatment with diosmin increases capillary resistance and reduces clinical manifestations.
Clinical efficacy and safety
Controlled double-blind clinical studies have demonstrated the therapeutic efficacy of the product in the treatment of signs and symptoms of established chronic venous disease (CVD) and in the treatment of acute haemorrhoidal disease.
⚠️ Warnings
In patients with chronic venous disease, treatment is most beneficial when accompanied by a balanced lifestyle:
- prolonged exposure to sunlight and prolonged standing should be avoided;
- an appropriate body weight should be maintained;
- wearing specialised stockings may improve circulation in some patients.
Particular care is advised if the condition worsens during treatment. This may manifest as skin inflammation, phlebitis, subcutaneous induration, severe pain, skin ulcers, or atypical symptoms such as sudden swelling of one or both legs.
Diosmin STADA is not effective in reducing oedema of the lower limbs caused by cardiac, hepatic, or renal disease.
Treatment of the symptoms of acute haemorrhoidal disease is not a substitute for specific treatment of other anorectal conditions. Treatment should be short-term only. If symptoms persist, a proctological examination should be performed and treatment should be reassessed.

This medicinal product contains less than 1 mmol sodium (23 mg) per daily dose, that is to say essentially "sodium-free".
