Aksoderm is a topical dermatological ointment containing retinol palmitate (vitamin A palmitate ester) at 400 IU per gram. Retinol palmitate is a pro-form of all-trans retinol that is hydrolysed in the skin to free retinol and subsequently oxidised to retinaldehyde and retinoic acid, the biologically active retinoid that binds nuclear retinoic-acid receptors (RAR alpha/beta/gamma) and modulates keratinocyte differentiation, sebaceous-gland activity and epidermal turnover. ATC class D10AD02 (topical retinoids for acne treatment). The 400 IU/g strength is a low-potency topical formulation intended for general epidermal support, dryness, and mild superficial keratinisation disorders rather than inflammatory acne.
⚠️ Warnings
Avoid eyes, mucous membranes, lips, and nostrils; rinse thoroughly with water if accidental contact occurs. Avoid prolonged sun exposure and use broad-spectrum sunscreen during treatment — retinoids increase photosensitivity. Discontinue and seek medical advice if marked irritation, persistent erythema or contact dermatitis develops. Do not apply to acutely sunburned, eczematous or broken skin. Pregnancy: avoid as a precautionary class effect — although topical retinol palmitate has not been linked to teratogenicity at this strength, women of childbearing potential should use the lowest effective duration and a reliable method of contraception when systemic retinoid exposure is otherwise possible.
