Brompheniramine, sold under the brand nameDimetappamong others, is a first-generationantihistaminedrug of thepropylamine(alkylamine) class.It is indicated for the treatment of the symptoms of thecommon coldandallergic rhinitis, such as runny nose, itchy eyes, watery eyes, and sneezing. Like the other first-generation drugs of its class, it is considered asedatingantihistamine.
It was patented in 1948 and came into medical use in 1955.In 2023, the combination withdextromethorphanandpseudoephedrinewas the 281st most commonly prescribed medication in the United States, with more than 700,000 prescriptions.
⚠️ Warnings
• Caution should be exercised in patients with history of high blood pressure, increased eye pressure, sugar, difficulty in urinating, thyroid or heart disease, intestinal blockage, during pregnancy and breastfeeding.
• It may cause dizziness, do not drive a car or operate machinery while taking this medication.
• Do not take appetite control medicines while taking this medication.
