Pharmacotherapeutic group: Non-steroidal anti-inflammatory agent for topical application
ATC: M02AA23
Indometacin is a non-steroidal anti-inflammatory agent/analgesic that acts by inhibiting prostaglandin synthesis, as has been demonstrated in standard experimental animal models of inflammation.
In humans, indometacin reduces inflammatory pain, swelling and fever. It also has a reversible inhibitory effect on ADP- and collagen-induced platelet aggregation.
⚠️ Warnings
In patients with gastric or duodenal ulcers, Elmetacin may be used only after careful consideration of the benefits and risks of treatment.
When Elmetacin cutaneous spray is used by patients with:
asthma,
hay fever,
nasal polyps,
chronic obstructive pulmonary disease or chronic respiratory tract infection (mainly in combination with hay fever-like symptoms)
there is, compared with other patients, an increased risk of an asthma attack (analgesic intolerance/analgesic-induced asthma), local swelling of the skin and mucous membranes (Quincke's oedema) and urticaria.
In these patients, Elmetacin may be used only under the direct supervision of a physician and with certain precautionary measures. The same applies to patients with
hypersensitivity to other medicines, manifesting for example as skin reactions, itching or urticaria.
Elmetacin is not recommended for use in children and adolescents, as there is insufficient experience with its use in these age groups.
Children should be prevented from touching the areas of skin that have been treated with this medicine.
