Dexamethasone is an anti-inflammatory, immunosuppressive, and antiallergic agent belonging to the glucocorticoid class. Its effects are mediated through binding to intracellular glucocorticoid receptors, which interact with DNA. Dexamethasone is administered in tablet form for indications including cancer therapy, polyarthritis, severe asthma, and severe skin disorders. The medication is generally taken once daily after breakfast. Possible adverse effects include infectious diseases, Cushing's syndrome, weight gain, diabetes mellitus, metabolic disorders, psychiatric disturbances, gastrointestinal ulcers, and osteoporosis.
Dexamethasone (ATC H02AB02) possesses anti-inflammatory, antiallergic, and immunosuppressive properties. Its effects are mediated through binding to intracellular glucocorticoid receptors, which interact with DNA. Dexamethasone has only very minimal mineralocorticoid activity.
