Abacavir/lamivudine/zidovudine, sold under the brand nameTrizivir, is afixed-dose combinationantiretroviral medicationfor the treatment ofHIV/AIDS.It contains threereverse transcriptase inhibitorspatented byGlaxoSmithKlineand marketed by a joint venture withPfizer,ViiV Healthcare:
abacavir sulfate(ABC)lamivudine(3TC)zidovudine(AZTorZDV)
It is indicated in the treatment ofAIDS/HIV-1.For this purpose, the combination is very useful inpregnantwomen to decrease the risk ofmother-to-child transmission.
The most common effects include headache and nausea (feeling sick).
Abacavir/lamivudine/zidovudine was approved for use in the United States and the European Union in 2000.In December 2013,Lupin Limitedlaunched a generic version of abacavir/lamivudine/zidovudine.
