Pharmacotherapeutic group: infusion solutions, ATC code: B05BB02 (Intravenous solutions - solutions affecting electrolyte balance - electrolytes with carbohydrates).
Basic iso-osmotic hypo-ionic solution. After administration, it has a mildly acidifying effect.
The solution is intended to replace water and electrolyte losses. After glucose utilization, it acts as a hypotonic solution.
⚠️ Warnings
Before and during administration, it is necessary to monitor fluid balance, serum glucose levels, serum sodium levels and other electrolytes, particularly in patients with increased non-osmotic release of vasopressin (syndrome of inappropriate antidiuretic hormone secretion, SIADH) and in patients concomitantly treated with vasopressin agonists, due to the risk of hyponatraemia.
Intravenous glucose infusions are usually isotonic solutions. In the body, however, glucose-containing solutions become extremely hypotonic due to the rapid metabolism of glucose (see section 4.8).
For physiologically hypotonic solutions, monitoring of serum sodium is particularly important. Hyponatraemia:
Acute hyponatraemia can lead to acute hyponatraemic encephalopathy (cerebral oedema).
There is an increased risk of severe and life-threatening cerebral oedema caused by acute hyponatraemia in children, women of childbearing age, and patients with reduced cerebral compliance (e.g. meningitis, intracranial haemorrhage, and cerebral contusion).
Ardeaelytosol EL 2/3 contains sodium metabisulfite, which may rarely cause severe allergic reactions and bronchospasm.
