Ontario publishes a suggested fee guide that most Scarborough clinics track closely. §02Emergencies & out-of-hours care

Scarborough does not operate a formal dental duty rota; after-hours care is handled by a handful of clinics advertising evening and Saturday slots, plus walk-in dental offices clustered near Scarborough Town Centre. For trauma involving facial fractures, uncontrolled bleeding, airway compromise or significant infection, the emergency departments at Scarborough Health Network's three sites — Birchmount, General and Centenary — are the appropriate destination, and SickKids downtown handles paediatric maxillofacial cases. Call 911 immediately for swelling that affects breathing or swallowing, post-extraction haemorrhage that will not stop, or jaw injuries from collisions or falls. Toothache alone is not a 911 call.

Which Scarborough neighbourhoods have the densest concentration of clinics?

Agincourt, Bridlewood, Milliken and the Sheppard East corridor between Kennedy and Markham Road hold the highest density, reflecting the Chinese and Tamil community footprint. Wexford-Maryvale and the Kingston Road stretch in Cliffside and Birch Cliff are secondary clusters. The Malvern and Rouge areas in the northeast are comparatively underserved relative to population, with many residents driving to Markham or central Scarborough for care.

Can I find a Scarborough dentist who speaks my language?

Yes — multilingual practice is the norm rather than the exception. Mandarin, Cantonese, Tamil, Tagalog, Hindi, Urdu, Gujarati, Cantonese, Korean and Farsi are commonly listed staff languages, particularly in Agincourt, Milliken and along Markham Road. Does OHIP cover any dental treatment in Scarborough?

Very little. OHIP pays only for medically necessary oral surgery performed in a hospital — for example, jaw tumour resection or trauma reconstruction at Scarborough Health Network. Routine fillings, cleanings, crowns, root canals and orthodontics are out-of-pocket or covered by private insurance.
