Turkey Dental Clinic Directory: Authorised Dentists, Implant Centres and Treatment Access
Turkey hosts one of the largest dental care sectors in Europe and the wider region, with more than 35,000 licensed dentists and a rapidly growing private clinic network. The PillsCard directory lists more than 934 verified dental clinics across the country, drawn from publicly available OpenStreetMap data and supplemented by clinic submissions. This guide explains how the Turkish dental system is structured, who regulates it, and how to use this directory to find authorised dentists and implant centres. The information below is for general educational purposes only — it does not constitute medical advice and is not a substitute for direct consultation with a licensed dentist. Tıbbi tavsiye değildir.
Regulatory Framework for Dental Practice in Turkey
Dental practice in Turkey is regulated by the Ministry of Health together with the Turkish Dental Association (Türk Diş Hekimleri Birliği, TDB). The TDB has 36 regional chambers that enforce ethical conduct, continuing education and professional standards. Licensing is administered nationally; a dentist must hold a dentistry diploma from a Turkish or recognised foreign dental faculty (Diş Hekimliği Fakültesi) and complete the Health Ministry registration to practise.
Under Law No. 1219 on the Practice of Medicine and the secondary regulations issued by the Ministry of Health:
- Every clinic must operate under a licensed dentist (mesul müdür) responsible for medical and ethical standards.
- Clinics offering surgical procedures (implantology, oral surgery) require additional infrastructure approval.
- All dental materials and devices must hold TİTCK or CE conformity certification.
- Patient records must be retained for at least ten years, electronically or in paper form.
These rules apply equally to solo practitioners, group clinics, chain operators and hospital-based dental departments. Foreign dentists may practise after their diploma is recognised by the Council of Higher Education (YÖK) and they complete the Turkish-language qualification examination.
Categories of Dental Care in Turkey
Dental services in Turkey fall into several broad categories:
Preventive and general dentistry — examination, cleaning (detartraj), fluoride application, fissure sealants, simple restorative work (fillings) and basic periodontal care. Most general dental clinics offer these services without specialist referral.
Specialist services — endodontics (root canal), periodontology (gum treatment), orthodontics, prosthodontics (crowns, bridges, dentures), paedodontics (children's dentistry), oral and maxillofacial surgery, and dentoalveolar surgery. Specialist titles in Turkey require an additional four to five years of postgraduate residency.
Aesthetic and cosmetic dentistry — teeth whitening (bleaching), porcelain laminates (Hollywood veneer), composite bonding, smile design and gum contouring. This sector has expanded rapidly with the growth of dental tourism.
Implantology — single, multiple and full-arch dental implants. Turkey is one of the leading destinations for implant treatment globally, with both individual practitioners and dedicated dental implant centres offering treatments at competitive international prices.
Public versus Private Dental Care
Public dental services are delivered through:
- Oral and Dental Health Hospitals (Ağız ve Diş Sağlığı Hastaneleri, ADSH) — large Ministry of Health facilities specialising in oral health, present in every major province.
- State hospital dental clinics (Devlet Hastanesi Diş Polikliniği) — limited service scope, free or low-cost for SGK beneficiaries.
- University dental faculties (Diş Hekimliği Fakültesi Hastaneleri) — teaching and tertiary referral, often the only providers of complex specialist treatments at subsidised cost.
Most Turkish patients use private clinics for routine and aesthetic dentistry. SGK reimbursement for private dental work is limited — typically only emergency extractions, basic restorations and prostheses for elderly patients are covered, and even then partial co-payment applies.
Dental Tourism (Diş Turizmi)
Turkey is the world's largest destination for dental tourism, attracting more than one million foreign patients annually for treatments including:
- Full-mouth dental implants and full-arch (All-on-4, All-on-6) restorations
- Hollywood veneer and aesthetic smile design
- Crown and bridge work
- Full mouth rehabilitation
Major tourist clusters include Istanbul, Antalya, Izmir and Bodrum. The Ministry of Health certifies clinics as "Sağlık Turizmi Yetkili Sağlık Tesisi" (Health Tourism Authorised Facility); this status is required for legal marketing to international patients and is publicly verifiable through the Ministry's directory.
When choosing a dental tourism clinic, look for:
- Health Tourism Authorisation certificate
- Membership of the Turkish Dental Association (TDB)
- Use of CE-certified implant brands (Straumann, Nobel Biocare, Bicon and TİTCK-approved Turkish manufacturers)
- Written treatment plan with itemised pricing in Euro or USD
- Multi-language post-treatment follow-up and warranty terms in writing
Geographic Distribution
The PillsCard directory shows the heaviest dental clinic density in Istanbul, Ankara, Izmir, Antalya, Bursa and Adana. Smaller provincial cities are also well represented; the directory includes coverage across all 81 Turkish provinces. Each clinic listing includes the address, phone number, and where available the principal services offered.
Pricing and Payment Methods
Turkish private dental fees are typically 50-70% lower than EU averages for equivalent procedures. The Turkish Dental Association publishes a minimum recommended price list (Asgari Ücret Tarifesi) annually; individual clinics may charge above this minimum. Common payment methods include cash, credit card, bank transfer and clinic-specific installment programmes.
For dental tourism patients, most international-facing clinics accept Euro, USD or GBP and offer all-inclusive packages including airport transfer, hotel accommodation and post-treatment follow-up. Beware of unrealistically low offers that omit critical components such as proper diagnostic imaging, treatment planning or follow-up care.
Emergency Dental Care
For dental emergencies (severe pain, trauma, bleeding) the closest oral and dental health hospital emergency department or, in some cities, dental faculty hospital is your fastest option. The national emergency line 112 handles severe trauma but routine dental emergencies should be directed to the nearest dental facility. Private chains often offer 24-hour on-call services in major metropolises.
Sterilisation, Infection Control and Patient Safety
Turkish dental clinics must follow the Ministry of Health's infection control regulations, which include autoclave sterilisation of all reusable instruments, single-use disposable barriers for handpieces, gloves and masks for every patient encounter, surface disinfection between patients, and biological monitoring of sterilisers using spore tests at regular intervals. Larger clinics maintain a dedicated sterilisation room with separate clean and dirty zones; the autoclave temperature and pressure logs are retained for inspection. Patients have the right to ask the clinic to demonstrate its sterilisation protocol; reputable dental tourism clinics often display sterilisation certificates in their reception area.
Materials and Implant Brands Used
Turkish dental clinics use a wide range of implant systems and prosthetic materials. The most commonly used implant brands include premium-tier Swiss and Scandinavian systems (Straumann, Nobel Biocare, Astra Tech, Bicon), mid-tier systems (Megagen, Osstem) and TİTCK-approved Turkish-manufactured systems (Dentium, Implance, NucleOSS). The choice of system affects price as well as warranty and lifetime replacement guarantees. For crowns and bridges, materials range from porcelain-fused-to-metal (PFM) through full zirconia to monolithic e.max lithium disilicate ceramic; full-zirconia restorations have become the dominant choice for posterior teeth due to strength and biocompatibility.
