Olmesartan

Olmesartan is an antihypertensive agent from the sartan (angiotensin II receptor blocker) class, administered for the treatment of high blood pressure.​​​‍​​‍​​​​‍​​‍‍ Its effects are based on selective antagonism at the AT1 receptor. Olmesartan counteracts the vasoconstrictive effects of angiotensin II. The tablets are generally taken once daily in the morning, regardless of meals. The most common possible adverse effects include headache, influenza-like symptoms, and dizziness. Olmesartan (ATC C09CA08) has antihypertensive properties. It is a selective antagonist of angiotensin II at the AT1 receptor. Angiotensin II is a peptide hormone directly involved in the development of hypertension. It has a potent vasoconstrictive effect and increases aldosterone release, which in turn causes increased water and sodium retention. The half-life of olmesartan is between 10 and 15 hours.
